Bruce Malinczak, was recognized as the recipient of the 2007 “PRIME” Award at the banquet held on October 16, 2007 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in Kalamazoo during the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association annual State Conference.

Annually, MMTA recognizes one individual for outstanding service to their profession, community and the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association by awarding the prestigious Professional Recognition in Municipal Excellence (PRIME) Award.  This year there were five nominees for this award and a vote of the membership resulted in the presentation of the Award to Bruce Malinczak.

Bruce is the Assistant Treasurer for Canton Charter Township and a Past President of MMTA.  He currently serves as President of the Wayne County Treasurers Association and is a member of  the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada.

Bruce was instrumental in securing a vendor for the MMTA website and in monitoring its design, activation, and continues to help keep it updated.  Since his appointment, and ultimate election to the MMTA Board, Bruce has made education and communication to MMTA members a top priority.  In recognizing the need for “treasurer-to-treasurer” communication he set-up and continues to manage weekly e-mail questions from and to the MMTA membership.  In response to treasurers requesting in-depth training on specific topics, Bruce created the “MMTA Day Training Sessions” which have been extremely popular.

In Canton Charter Township Bruce is highly respected as an innovative leader.  Bruce has helped to bring new technologies to the treasurer’s office and has streamlined processes and procedures to better serve the Canton taxpayers and ratepayers.  He keeps the township residents informed through a monthly newsletter and even makes occasional appearances on Canton Public Television to provide information to the community.  Bruce also volunteers every year to raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life.”

Family is extremely important to Bruce and he shares his life with his wife Debbie and three children Maggie, Wyatt, and Josie.

Bruce was nominated for this award by several MMTA members.  The nominations had a common theme; “Bruce has done so much for MMTA” Thank you Bruce for your contributions!  We are very proud of you and everything you have accomplished.
